Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need a Friends group?
Don' t my taxes already support public library services?
* Kingston City Council and the Frontenac Management Board use municipal taxes to provide core public library services -- books, computers, buildings and salaries

* KFPL augments core funding with revenues from room rentals, library fines, photocopier and printer charges, and volunteer-run booksales

* Friends raise funds to enhance services, materials and equipment not provided by public funding
to make the Library more comfortable and cheerful: decorations, plants, extra furniture and display cases

* Friends promote the Library in the community by publicizing Library activities, funding extra programs for children and providing additional sources of revenue through booksales and promotional merchandise
